There are a lot of independent shoe companies popping up but only a few are consistent. Japanese luxury footwear company Ubiq has been making some really dope shoes , The Fatima model is a personal favorite of the Evil Collector. Now Ubiq introduces a new style into the collection called The Vaget.
Famous artist Mr. Cartoon of SA Studios recently held an event at Harley Davidson in Glendale CA, to celebrate the launch of the second edition of his toy with Super Rad Toys. Like the saying goes “Anything worth having is worth fighting for,” and your career and dreams are no exception — this is the case for Mr. Cons. After enduring 10 years of a of ups and downs, Consequence found a home with G.O.O.D Music and is ready to shine on his own. Cons-to-the-Quence vocalizes his talents and lyrical flows through this witty, gritty, and introspective compilation. Despite some rehashed tracks, Don’t Quit Your Day Job is worth a listen. Lupe Fiasco linked up with Swagger last winter to create a collection of bombers and winter accessories called “FUYU” which translates to “winter” in Japanese. These pieces were a small start to Lupe’s line with Swagger, Trilly and Trully which officially debuts this month with the “Haru” tee, meaning “spring” in Japanese. The cartoon tee, also a Trilly and Trully special, is a throwback to 1970’s cartoon art — think Fat Albert. Designers Big-O and Iggy, and Lupe are drawn wearing crowns and chasing a chicken. (more…)

Let’s take this week’s storewatch to Philly to get a glimpse inside of UBIQ. With new renovation and a reputation for sleek, chic and upscale shoes, UBIQ is a blueprint for other boutiques to follow.
When you walk into Burn Rubber, a sneaker shop outside of Detroit, you wouldn’t think that the store hadn’t had any new inventory for six months before this past February. The boutique’s walls are decked with colorful, rare name brand sneakers, and clothing from the likes of exclusive companies like 3Sixteen, 10 Deep, and Crooks & Castles.
But the store’s new owners, Roland Coit and Rick Williams, have made the most of their time since taking over the shop earlier this year.
“We just wanted to take it to the next level,” Coit says of their aspirations while taking over the new shop.
