Fulfilling a dream of pretty much anyone who even thought of setting foot on a skateboard in the 90’s, it appears Lakai is set to rerelease the original Koston 1. While this seems to be mainly a rumor for the moment. The sample picture above and a catalog scan after the jump are lending this rumor more and more credibility.

Let me reiterate that there is no solid confirmation on these sneakers that I’m aware of. But to put it in perspective, if you rolled an AJ III, IV, and the Penny Foams into one shoe, that’s the kind of demand and reverence most skaters have for these bad boys. Comfort, style, duability are all executed perfectly and rolled into one package that just so happens to be endorsed by one of the greatest street skaters in the world.

What better time than now to look back on some original colorways that I can only hope will be released. Thanks to the good folks at You Will Soon, we can get a taste for just how ahead of its time this shoe was. That air bubble caused a big stir back in the day, as one of, if not the first skate shoe to feature anything like that. This led to a few dark years where companies took the basketball as skate shoe idea and ran with it…straight into the ground. While some may disagree, I didn’t mind it on the Kostons, and it’d be nice to see a classic silhouette without a vulcanized sole in the here and now.

While not as apparent as in some of his later models, you can see the influence of Michael Jordan and the Air Jordan line in the color scheme here. Quite the collector himself, it’s fairly easy to equate his series of shoes with éS, and now Lakai, as the skate equivalent to Jordans. Some may find that unbelievable, but I would wholeheartedly argue that Koston, and subsequently his footwear have had at least as much impact on his sport as Jordan had to the hardwood. You can be absolutely sure there will be updates on this as more information is released. Fair warning though, limited or not, if these shoes are released, don’t expect them to sit on shelves very long.
