Poison Dart Clydes
Thursday, January 24, 2008 | Author: Jon LedfordPuma is gearing up for the release of a new pack of Clydes with some unusual inspiration next month. Taking cues from the patterns of poison dart frogs of Central and South America, these sneakers incorporate metallics, textured leathers, and secrete a deadly mucus.

As much as I’ve said against the pack mentality that seems to be the current trend in casual retro sneakers, with the right concept, it makes perfect sense. I have to admit, I’m really impressed with these sneakers. Visually overwhelming? Maybe, but the concept is unique and the follow through with the concept is excellent.

I consider the Clyde, Converse Chuck Taylors, and Vans Chukkas as the three quintessential summer shoes, and I could very easily see the bring colors in this pack slipping on my feet on a warm July afternoon. Even if you can’t bring yourself to throw these on, this is the kind of shoe that can replace those black and red Jordans everyone has already seen in your Detolf in the living room.

If nothing else, this is a fun set of shoes that is light hearted and while there may be some cornballs matching every color head to toe, that doesn’t mean they’re not worth your money. The first pair in the series will be released on Leap Day, February 29th, with the others to follow once every four weeks.
