The Vans Half Cab has a rich history among skate shoes, but has only recently garnered more attention in street and even high fashion circles. Here we have images of some Half Cabs to look for in core skate shops over the next year. Between the pair on the far left, the Kaws Air Forces one article down, and some other high profile releases, it seems like neon green is shaping up to replace purple as the popular accent color for 2008.

I could talk about the importance of these shoes and their significance over the years, but instead I’m going to give you an opportunity to see for yourself thanks to the wonders of Youtube. Steve Caballero, for whom both the shoes and the trick are named after, was a member of the Powell Bones Brigade, which also featured some other young rippers who probably didn’t amount to much. Some guy named Lance Mountain who gets basketball shoes sent to him, probably out of sympathy. Oh and this young ripper named Tony Hawk, weaseled his way onto the team too. Anyway, the Bones Brigade made a pretty popular video called The Search For Animal Chin, which gives you an idea of the way things were when Half Cabs made their way onto the market. Bright colored shirts, tight pants, and weird swoopy haircuts, dudes back then had the weirdest style! I mean look at that Hawk kid, there’s no way he’ll make something of himself!
