Hawaiian Punch
Wednesday, February 6, 2008 | Author: Jon LedfordKicks Hawaii and Sig Zane have joined forces yet again on an upcoming New Era cap. Having worked together previously on a variety of projects, the two companies have developed a strong cultural identity in their designs. This new cap incorporates a handcut design of Hawaiian coral into a checkerboard pattern.

The Sig Zane print is entitled Olako’aka. Ola translates to life or living, while ko’aka is a Hawaiian term for a coral reef where two currents meet. This seems like a pretty appropriate title considering the merging of traditional Hawaiian designs with a progressive contemporary brand like Kicks Hawaii. The color combination is quite strong, although I’m not totally convinced the checkerboard pattern works well.

I’m psyched to see the underbill incorporating the print. I’m pretty over the traditional kelly green on another solid color underneath a hat incorporating a pattern everywhere else. This cap will be available this Saturday at both Kicks Hawaii locations, as well as Sig Zane Designs and TheCutlery, with web availability to follow in the near future.
