It’s A Jungle Out There
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 | Author: Jon LedfordSo it looks like the folks at Nike Tech Pack have some more sneakers up their sleeves. Once again an Air Max 1 is paired against an Air Max Safari, with both shoes utilizing the notorious safari print. After the wild success of the last Tech Pack pairing, it stands to reason these will be quite a hit as well.

While the previous Safari released through the Tech Pack program was a little on the dull side with a predominantly black upper, this new pair throws a bit more color in the mix. The almost infrared color on the laces and swoosh really help to break up the fairly dull top half of the shoe.

With that said, I’m psyched that the shoe is livened up but still uses muted colors. Imagine these incorporating a true infrared and a bright blue safari print and you’ll realize just how important a little bit of restraint can be. I have a feeling these will go over even better than the last Safari drop.

After the overwhelming palette on the last Tech Pack AM1, the tones were reigned in quite a bit here as well. It’s always difficult to predict trends and how sneakers will stand the test of time. Yet, this shoe has the right mix of a clean design, a strong color selection, and just enough of a tweak with the laces and safari print to make it the kind of shoe people will shell out four or five bills on Ebay or in Flight Club years from now.

I can’t be totally sure but it looks like nubuck leather is incorporated into the yellow panels on the shoe, only adding yet another reason to try to grab an extra pair. I shouldn’t even need to mention the mesh toe!

These shoes should be arriving in Tech Pack retailers over the next few weeks. You can anticipate similar pricepoints to the previous release as well. These are indeed a quickstrike so be sure to act quickly and/or get in touch with your local shop to secure your pairs.
