It’s nearing the end of March which means we have a preview of the upcoming KidRobot toy releases for April. This month there’s a little something for everyon. Late night TV nerds can pick up the new Adult Swim minis, creepy Myspace lurkers have a half naked Peecol figure, Romero fans and resellers have a new Dunny to look forward to, and fans of, um, smiling continental breakfast foods have some…well, some smiling continental breakfast food keychains ready to stare back at you. Awkward, but at least they can keep their shirt on.

Patricio Oliver has resurrected this glowing 8″ Dunny from it’s grave to wreak havoc to your bookshelf, display case, and/or entertainment center on April 24. Braiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnsssss. Is this the same sort of commentary that Marvel was originally making with their Zombies line? Is that joke going to fly over everyone’s head but mine? Is this thing on? Hello? Brrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaiiiinnnnnnnssssssss.

The eagerly anticipated Adult Swim mini series has finally arrived. College kids everywhere can now decorate their dorm with collectible versions of Robot Chicken, Carl, The Mooninites and others. I’ll be pulling blind boxes until I score a Carl for sure. No word on the appearance of the main Aqua Teen gang yet, but have hope!

Eboy’s Peecol has seen more success than I honestly anticipated for a rather basic sculpt. Stylization goes a long way in each of these releases considering they are only a step or two up from Lego figures in terms of the shape and structure. What really helps to sell these figures is the social commentary made with many of the characters. Eva here is no exception as she calls to mind the American Apparel-Myspace slut that is probably somewhere on that friends list of yours. Now if this thing could just come with an “eva@kidrobot.com - thanks for the add!” sign, then I’d buy all 600 of these on April 3rd.

Heidi Kenney has made quite a name for herself simply by adding googly eyes and a smiley face to everyday objects. Simplistic? Sure, but at least it’s more wholesome than a piece of bacon smoking a cigarette a la Kozik. Those ashes just don’t taste very good. My girl is actually really into these figures and I have to admit there’s something about a waffle with a face that makes me laugh whenever I think about it. I still don’t understand why the keychains are necessary though. Just let ‘em be mini figures!
