Recon Team Has Been Spotted
Thursday, March 27, 2008 | Author: Jon LedfordThe new spring tee lineup from Recon has arrived in their brick and mortar shop in New York. For those of you living outside the NY area, we have teaser images of each tee. Baseball and the struggles between heaven and hell seem to be the two themes running through much of the spring line. Take this Dodgers parody posted above for example, as a simple design utilizing a clean script, or as a reference to the the notorious Dodger blue.

And if that tribute to Brooklyn didn’t quite drive the point home, there’s this offering featuring a smashed cement effect on the type. Judging by the skull at the end of that bat, it’s probably best not to go badmouthing Brooklyn around the Recon crew.

Rounding out the baseball themed pieces is this Yankees homage with the R3 insignia incorporated. Pardon the pun, but this is a real swing and a miss, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a Red Sox fan. The execution on the actual logo leaves a lot to be desired.

The lone free agent among the Recon themes this season is quite possibly my favorite out of the bunch. This snakeskin design uses the popular barbwire logo, and the tightening coil is a perfect fit for a python print considering ptyhons are the true masters of the chokehold. This shirt also goes back to a cap using the same design.

Here we see the barb wire yet again, only this time in a more wholesome sense. Trumpeting angels announce the arrival of the graphic and I can’t quite figure out why. Sure the design fits the logo form, but then what? Is this some kind of crown of thorns reference? Seems a little weak to me, but you could definitely do a lot worse.

Yo, who in the hell stuck some horns on Colonel Sanders? Actually, I can get down with this, even if this really is a diss to the Colonel. I worked there for three years in high school and I can’t even get a free popcorn chicken meal? Where’s the love!

I’m not a religious dude by any stretch of the imagination, but the idea that death is lurking around that next corner is something we can all relate to, unless you’re Dick Clark or Bob Barker. I’m a sucker for handstyled type like this. I don’t know enough to say whether it’s a true handstyle, but the effect is so much more interesting than some bubbly typeset. the gradiant print looks really dope too.

You can’t see the full thing here, but you’ve seen this logo from Recon before. There’s a horn at the upper tip of the R, and then a devil’s tail. What even i can’t tail is if that’s stitching or a screenprint. I’d be pretty psyched to see that as an embroidered logo.
Anyway, all of these tees are available now at Recon, and will hopefully be arriving in other Recon stockists and the Recon online shop before long.
