It was a rainy Saturday night in Baltimore yesterday, so my girl and I decided to hit up the Charles and check out a movie I’ve been hearing a lot about. Mitchell Lichenstein’s Teeth stars Jess Weixler as Dawn, a leading member of her local Christian based chastity group. When Dawn’s sexuality comes under attack, she is able to fight back in an incredibly unexpected and gruesome way, with hilarious and (decidedly unsexy) results. Check out the trailer and more after the jump.

For an intentionally campy horror flick, I was pretty impressed with how smart Teeth turned out to be. The movie takes the Vagina Dentata myth and flips it on it’s head, suggesting that maybe the “evil” female doesn’t need to be rescued or conquered and she has instead evolved a defense mechanism against the overly aggressive men she encounters. Whenever Dawn turns to someone for help, she is either directly or indirectly thwarted by men whom she in turn is able to…cut down to size, to say the least. The trailer can give you an idea of what I’m talking about.

Be warned, there are some definite full (or is it empty?) frontal nude shots of dudes who fell victim to Dawn’s unique anatomy. They’re pretty short though and shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the rest of the movie. There are plenty of laughs to be had, and especially for guys, some serious suspense and gut wrenching moments. I highly recommend checking Teeth out if you can. Taken at face value it’s plenty entertaining, and there’s enough depth to the movie that you’ll have lots to talk about afterward. If your girl isn’t too squemish, nothing helps break the ice better than an empowered girl snapping at dicks. Just make sure she doesn’t follow suit.

Teeth has been in fairly limited release and may have already come and gone if you live in LA or New York, but check your local listings, as it is starting to make it’s way into art house theatres in smaller markets. Check out the official website for more details.
