Luke Chueh Is My H(e)ro
Wednesday, May 14, 2008 | Author: Jon LedfordLuke Chueh recently opened his latest solo exhibition at the Copro Nason Gallery in Santa Monica. Entitled She’s My Heroin(e), the showing addresses concepts of addiction in his trademark style. Chueh may be unfamiliar to some of you, but in the modern pop art (or whatever buzz word you want to throw at design/toy/illustrative cultural movement) scene he is practically a household name. Check out some more images and information about the exhibition after the jump.

Here we see the famous bunny character fighting it’s own dark counterpart. I’m not sure just how much of this show is seen as cathartic for Chueh in terms of grappling with addiction, but this is definitely something we should all be aware of at all times. I mean, if you’re driving around in a beater car with a bunch of sneakers in your bedroom and enough tees for a year in your closet, maybe it’s time to reevaluate your priorities. I mean, what do you need that car for anyway, you can sell it and buy a totally sweet bike and a bunch more new shirts.

Sometimes it isn’t always material goods weighing us down, as represented by this piece. Addiction comes in many forms, and Chueh effortlessly negotiates their various forms throughout his work. The exhibition runs through the rest of May at Copro Nason. For directions and other info check out their site.
