Nothing Gold Can Stay
Wednesday, June 4, 2008 | Author: Jon LedfordCollaborator to the streetwear stars Benny Gold has fleshed out his unqiue style for a line of tees and a New Era cap for the summer. If you’ve seen his previous work with his own line or through collaborations with Huf, The Hundreds, Mash, and others, you’ll have an idea of what to expect. This time around though, Benny had Andy Jenkins, art director for Girl, lend a hand on a design. Check out that shirt and the rest of the line below.

I couldn’t agree more with the sentiment on this one. There’s a nice simple design to accompany it too. I’d have to say this is my favorite of the bunch.

Here’s the collaboration with Andy Jenkins. I haven’t been a big fan of the paper airplane motif up ’til now, but this shirt has me turning the corner. That said, I’m not sure why it took two dudes working together to come up with this idea.

Honestly, I’m not really feeling this New Era. Maybe it’s the slight rip off of my beloved Red Sox logo, maybe it’s the awkwardly incorporated airplanes, or maybe it’s the dull color schemes. Maybe. I’ve seen worse though. Namely almost everything New Era tries to do with MLB teams on their own.

This is a nice classy graphic returning to the Benny Gold namesake, not to mention the gold rush roots of the bay area. The typeface used for the BG logo is kinda off putting, and I would expect a keen eye like Benny’s to catch that. Either way, the Gold Standard graphics are great.

Last up is the same paper airplane style seen on the New Era. It’s slightly better this time around but is definitely the weakest of the offerings. All of these shirts should be hitting retailers soon if they haven’t already arrived.
