New York’s Pegleg has released their summer line without much fanfare. Pegleg definitely marches to a very unique drummer. Even as other brands are following a bit of a nautical theme, Pegleg still manages to take those same ideas in a slightly different direction. Sometimes that direction is a miss, but when this brand makes contact, they knock that design all the way into the parking lot.

Take for instance this sailboat tee. In another context, you’d probably think this was a children’s shirt. Ironic hipsters will love the design, but will they be willing to spend $40 on it? Or will they go pay twice that for a similar look in a vintage store to look more authentic? Oh, those wily hipsters!

There’s a ton of tank tops in this line, and if you’ve ever spent a summer day in NYC, you already know why. Still, these are a bit, well…they’re a bit fruity (sorry). That said, those same skinny hipsters are eating this up right now. Maybe I’m just jealous cuz as a…healthy eater…I’d be popping outta these shirts in all the wrong places. Less fruit on my stomach and more in it I guess.

That straw New Era is the single best piece Pegleg has ever done. I just hope the fit is a little better than when other companies try to pull that off. LRG, you’re on notice. Then there’s the sail cap. The old school rope against the brim is rad, but the primary colors and childish logo leaves me scratching my head. There’s some potential, but definitely a try before you buy deal.

Guys can get away with a bit more silliness when it comes to board shorts. I mean, be honest with yourself, you’ve worn at least one pair covered in flowers. So you’re not too cool for a little geometryor some lighthouses. I like how the whole line and these shorts especially are kinda reminiscent of the Polo aesthetic without totally biting.
