If you’re anything like me, simply seeing the logo above has you jumping out of your chair. But trust me, it gets better. Diablo 3 has indeed been officially announced by Blizzard. I can vividly remember spending wayyyyyyy too much time playing the original two games in high school, and I have no doubt that this will be the same case. Check out some screenshots below to see just what I’m talking about.

So it looks like there’s trouble in Tristram once again. Deckard Cain may be in trouble and it’s up to you as one of five classes to stop him. Only this time, the environment looks a hell of a lot cooler. Just check out the sweet barbarian action in the screenshot above. Not convinced? Check out the trailer and a mindblowing gameplay video.

I’ve already read a lot of discussion about the apparent lack of progression in this game and from what I’ve seen I agree there doesn’t seem to be much change in gameplay. But bear in mind, we’ve only gotten a small taste of what the finished product will look like, as this game is at least two years off by my guess. Not only that, but who needs that much progression anyway? The formula works for these games, so fix a couple things like carrying potions and skill hotkeys (which they have!), spice up the graphics (seriously, look at the lighting), and I’m going to walk away happy.

There’s also a new character class - the witch doctor. Honestly, this class has shown some neat abilities already, but it seems to teeter pretty close to the role a necromancer used to play, and I’d be said to see that class go. But you be the judge yourself. There’s still three more classes and a slew of other presumably rad stuff to be announced so stay tuned as I’ll be certain to geek out over any major developments.
